At Seaside Family Medicine we care about you and your health so we offer free blood pressure screenings. No appointments are necessary. At the blood pressure screening the nurse will check your blood pressure and let you know if it is normal or not. If your blood pressure is not normal the nurse will recommend that you be seen by a medical professional at Seaside Family Medicine or any other healthcare provider in the community.

Why is checking your blood pressure important?

High blood pressure is common in the United States with one in three Americans having high blood pressure. High blood pressure leads to a large force of blood through your blood vessels which over time can lead to damaged blood vessels. When your blood vessels are damaged you are at risk for a stroke and a heart attack. Most of the time high blood pressure is "silent" meaning it has no symptoms.

Who should have their blood pressure checked?

If you are 40 or older you should have your blood pressure checked at least once a year.

If you are 18-40 and you are a healthy weight you should have your blood pressure checked every 3 to 5 years.

Your blood pressure should be checked any time you are having symptoms of high blood pressure. Symptoms of high blood pressure include: headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, nose bleeds, and shortness of breath. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms you should be seen by a healthcare provider.
